1.         How do I register for a sport with the 78th Precinct Youth Council?

ALL REGISTRATION IS NOW ON-LINE ONLY : Click here to go directly to our on-line registration site. On your first registration you will need to create a member account and profiles for each child registering for a sport.  On subsequent registrations you will simply be   able to log in to your member account and register your child. Our principal mode of communication is by email.  Please make sure your email address is accurate and up to date. If your personal information   changes you must go into your member profile and change it, otherwise we will not be able to contact you.

 2.         How do I pay for registration and how much are the fees?

Payment can be made with credit or debit cards (MasterCard, Visa, Discover or American Express). All transaction fees are included in the price.  A receipt will be sent to your designated email address once you have completed the transaction.  The specific fee for a given sport or event is listed on this web page once registration for the sport or event has begun.  Click here to see that chart.

 3.         Can I use any computer to register?

At this time the registration system only fully supports Internet Explorer.  Other browsers may hang during the registration process.

 4.         When does registration begin?

The dates vary slightly every year, but, generally, Baseball registration begins in December while Flag Football and Basketball registration begin in June.  Please visit this website regularly for exact registration start times.

 5.         Can you provide me with notice when registration begins?

E-mails are sent to all active registrants in our current database, notifying them that registration for a sport has begun.  Active registrants are those who have registered for any sport within the last year.  WE ADVISE YOU NOT TO DEPEND ON THAT NOTIFICATION.  Every year some members are shut out of registration because they did not receive the email (invalid email address in the system, message caught by a spam filter, etc.), and did not check our website on a regular basis.

In addition to posting notices on our website and emailing active registrants, we also attempt to post notices on local bulletin boards and flyers at local schools.  We need your help to make these postings.  If you can help, please email us at volunteer@78pyc.org.

 6.         Are there registration deadlines?

Yes, on-time registration deadlines will be posted on our web-site and in the on-line   registration screens.

 7.         Is there a penalty for late registration?

Yes, a $35 non-refundable late fee will be automatically added to your registration charges.  Also, late registrants are not guaranteed placement on a team.  If all of the teams are full, late registrants may have to be placed on a wait list; if they cannot be placed on a team by the third week of the season, they will receive a refund, less the late fees.

9.         Can my child play with older (play up) or younger (play down) children?

Generally, the answer is no.  There is a wide range of skill levels in every age group, and that variation is reflected in the composition of our teams, our divisions, and our league.

Playing down is allowed only if specific medical or developmental issues indicate that the player is below the minimum standards and expectations for their age group.

Playing up is highly discouraged, as well.  Simply wanting to be with friends is not sufficient reason to play up into an older division.  If a player’s talents are significantly beyond the norms for their intramural age group, then they should consider playing in our Travel Division.

In either case, anyone requesting to play up or down must be evaluated by the appropriate VP, who will have the final decision on whether or not to allow the exception.

For a more detailed explanation as if pertains to our baseball program, click here.

10.       How do I register for Travel Baseball (Bulldogs) or Travel Basketball (Kings)?

When you access the on-line registration system, you will have the opportunity to choose the intramural division (placement guaranteed for on-time registrants as long as we have enough coaches), or travel tryouts (placement only if skill level sufficient, based on coach’s assessment).  The fee for travel tryouts will be exactly the same as the intramural fee.  If a player is not accepted onto a travel  team, they will automatically be placed on an intramural team, and no additional fees will be due.  If a player makes the travel team, a second payment will be due, on notification from the coach, to cover the additional expenses associated with a travel program.

If there is a baseball coach/team your child would want to play on but is first trying out for the Bulldogs, also be sure to select that intramural baseball team coach when registering, otherwise your child will be placed in a no preference group if he/she does not make a Bulldog team.   For the Spring we form Bulldog teams for ages 9-16 (that age on April 30 of that year).  We form an 8 year old Bulldog team for the summer - tryouts will be in June.  We want all 8 year olds to learn how to pitch and hit kid pitching first in our Pony intramural division - which is a lot of fun.

In some cases, players must be chosen to the team before registering.  In that case the chart above will say "Requires Approval of Coach."   If someone registers without prior coach approval, the registration fee will be refunded less the administrative portion of the fee (which includes what we had to pay to the credit card company that is not refundable to us).

 11.       Do you provide refunds if a child decides not to play?

Late fees are not refundable.  All other payments are refundable according to the schedule below; any uniforms issued must be returned to receive a refund.

Refund requested more than two weeks prior to season start – Full refund of registration payment, less either late fees or an administrative fee of $35.00, to cover our online transaction costs.

Refund requested less than two weeks prior to season start, but before first game –

Fifty per cent (50%) refund of registration payment

NO REFUNDS WILL BE PROVIDED AFTER THE FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON

 12.       Is financial aid available?

Yes, all children should have the opportunity to participate in youth sports.  Please email us at contactus@78pyc.org to begin the process for receiving financial aid.

 13.       Can I request a particular teammate or coach?

In baseball, you will be able to register for a particular coach (if there is still room on that team), and you can put in teammate requests.    But we cannot guarantee your request will be honored – we will try our best.  If your child wants to play on a baseball team with friends and has no particular coach preference, you should coordinate a team choice with the friends and register for the same team.

In flag football and basketball, our primary goal is to balance the teams.  Thus, teammate  and coach requests are not taken.  The one exception to this is our basketball clinic division (5 - 7   year olds), where you can register for a specific coach, as long as that session is not full.

Coaches automatically get their own children on the team (unless they don’t want them!).  Children of assistant coaches are a part of the general draft, but coaches can work out trades, with the approval of the Commissioner of the sport.
