Baseball and Softball
We are always looking for good baseball and softball umpires. While we do not employ those officials directly, we contract with our friends at New York Travel Sports. NYTS hires, trains and schedules all our umpires. Flag Football and Basketball
78 Youth Sports hires, trains and schedules all the referees for our Flag Football and Basketball programs. We are always on the lookout for passionate, hard-working, and reliable self-starters to add to our ranks. If you are interested, please know the following:
Minimum Age: Referees must be at least 14 years old.
Seasons: There are spring and fall seasons. Spring runs from April through June and fall runs from September through November. You may work spring, fall or both.
Flexible Schedule: Flag games are officiate by 2-3-person crews and run approximately one hour in duration. You can work as many as you like (sometimes up to six per day). Basketball is normally 2 refs and also approximately one-hour in duration.
Training: All referees must complete a training course prior to working their first game. We provide multiple training sessions each year (no charge) where new referees can get certified and returning referees can get a refresher course.
Uniforms: We provide all flag officials with official 78 Youth Sports jerseys.
Travel: Referees are responsible for their own travel to and from games. Games are played at Van Voorhees Playground, Prospect Park, DiMattina Field and Red Hook Recreation Center.
